Iriga City Mayor Madelaine Y. Gazmen recently attended and addressed the  Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, held in Delhi, India, 2-5 November 2016.

This conference is organized by the Government of India in collaboration with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). The objective of the conference is to transform the commitment made by governments and stakeholders at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction into regional, national and local action. The conference will strive to set the direction and accelerate regional implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 through the ‘Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework’.

Mayor Madel was among a select group of local leaders in Asia, and lone Filipino representative, chosen to speak about local disaster risk mitigation experiences. Being from the often typhoon ravaged region of the Philippines, she was hand-picked for her unique position as local chief executive.

After the conference, the Mayor Alfelor will organize 100 mayors in the Philippines to sign the commitment on the “Sendai Framework” as her commitment made at the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction  at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, India.
