In preparation for the oncoming Typhoon Nina, the Local Government Unit of Iriga distributed Satellite (SAT) phones to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). These SAT phones will be of help in case radio towers are knocked down by the strong winds and other means of communicating are not available. These will allow the CDRRMO and BFP to respond more effectively in times of emergency.

Typhoon Nina is considered one of the strongest typhoons to hit Bicol in 10 years. It is already raised to Signal No. 4.
