The Bicol Regional Development Council has recognized the City Government of Iriga for bringing honor to the Bicol Region by placing in the Top 10 in Resiliency among the Component Cities in the Philippines 2017 of the National Competitiveness Council. Since 2014, the National Competitiveness Council names the most competitive LGUs to recognize their crucial role in promoting competitiveness in the country. For 2017 ranking, Resiliency as a pillar of competitiveness was added, in cognizance of the climate change and global disaster risk phenomena in recent years and how the LGUs are handling or preparing for them.
The commendation from the Bicol RDC was given last September 8, 2017 at Legazpi City. It was received by Mr. Ruben S. delos Santos, OIC-City Administrator, and Ms. Marieser T. Almelor, OIC-City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, in behalf of Hon. City Mayor Madelaine Y. Alfelor and the City of Iriga.
