Hon. City Mayor Madelaine Y. Alfelor participated in the recently concluded “Policy Workshop: Cultural Tourism for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region” sponsored by the UNITAR CIFAL Jeju/JITC. It was held last September 12-15, 2017 at Jeju, Republic of Korea. Mayor Madel and the City Government of Iriga has been chosen as one of the 28 participating agencies among the 65 applicants.
The workshop aims to (1) stimulate support of UN Sustainable Development Goals in its localization and implementation phase, (2) provide an international platform for knowledge exchange, supporting sharing and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned across cities, (3) promote city-to-city cooperation by establishing a strong network that leads to the development of the region.
UNITAR CIFAL Jeju/JITC is a part of CIFAL netwrok of UNITAR, a training arm of the UN system. It has been established to provide workshops/seminars to help local governments’ capacity-building, especially in the areas of sustainable urbanization and environment, economic development, and security and safety in cooperation with UNITAR.
