One of the priorities of Hon. Ronald Felix Y. Alfelor, City Mayor of Iriga, is utilizing and improving the technology that the Local Government Unit has. Because of this, he invited trainers from Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) Manila to conduct training for the use of their Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment (REDAS) Software.
The said software is used to quickly assess damage after an earthquake. It can also indicate the occurrence of tsunami and the damages it may inflict, earthquake induced landslides and liquefaction that may be produced by an earthquake. The city of Iriga hosted the said training and invited different Local Government Units from nearby towns and provinces, educational institutions and other private and government agencies.
There were sixty-seven (67) participants from different areas whereas fifty-four (54) licensed REDAS software were issued. There were 18 participants from the local government unit of Iriga, 2 participants from Baao and Bula both from the province of Camarines Sur and Barcelona, Gubat, Pilar, Puerto Diaz,Sorsogon, Cebu City, Cortes, Surigao Del Sur, DOST Region V, 4 participants from Bula and Buhi, Camarines Sur, 3 from Central Bulusan and Sta Magdalena, Sorsogon and 5 from Sorsogon City. There are also 1 participant from Nabua, Camarines Sur, NEDA Region 5 and HLURB Region 5.
The REDAS Software was developed by Dr. Bartolome C. Bautista, Deputy Director of PHILVOCS and currently updates and more features are being developed and studied so that the said software can be more effectively utilized and more functionalities can be added as needed by each locality.
The training was held at Iriga Plaza Hotel Convention Center from January 25-30, 2015.
